Winter Break is Killing meeeee!

Winter Break. Hmm I can't seem to say much about it-yet. I served on the jury for the first time, finally visited the Natural History Museum, watched a play at the Bootleg theater, and ate some mushroom flavored gelato at the FungiFest. Kicking it is all I do-I need to do more.

It has been awhile since I have read a good book. So I made a short trip to the library today and picked this up.

Nothing pisses me off than horrible, incredibly stupid, and senseless drivers. Nothing I say!

I sometimes find myself wishing there were cops at the moment hanging around-ready to pull them over. That's why I flip them off (and I don't just freely flip people off). If they never get pulled over by the cops, then they'll never know. That's how kind I am.

I have had so many encounters with these morons-I think I can even blog each day about one.

A guy tailgated me on the freeway-I could see from the mirror that he was dangerously close. I stayed at the speed limit and assumed that he was going to cut me-but no, he persisted. It pissed me off. Finally, he threw his hands up in the air and changed lanes. As he was passing by my side, I took the opportunity to flip him off. He probably got the message.

It was the very last second of the light and I finally made a left turn (if I didn't, I would've been stuck in the middle of the street). As I was making my turn, the light had turned green for the other traffic. This guy sped through the intersection and almost flew his car into mine. What was he doing speeding towards a car turning into his lane?!?! Feeling that I got in his way, he honked and yelled at me. As I drove by his car, I flipped him off. I made sure he saw it-and he did. I know this for a fact because as I drove away, he honked and yelled some more.

I was at the mall when another jerk almost hit me at an intersection (with stop signs may I add). It was my right of way to make a left turn. In the middle of making my turn, I saw from the corner of my eye a car (from the opposite direction) heading right towards me. WTF. If a car is in your way, common sense tells you to stop-regardless of whether or not you think its your right of way. Just like the guy aforementioned, this lady wasn't thinking (probably distracted) and was just asking for an accident. It was a close call. (no flipping off here...I think).

I was so pissed at this other lady and she knew it. She stopped her car in the middle of the street and got out just to yell at me. I think she wanted to "get down" haha. After much yelling and arm waving, she realized she was blocking traffic and finally drove away. Idiot. Didn't she know who she was messing with?

There are so much more stories to tell-my car has already been crashed into and I've been hit by another idiot while on a bike.

I know I'm not that perfect of a driver, but these people are ridiculous! Seriously! You know that saying that most L.A drivers can't drive? Well, it is true-every bit of it. Don't believe those who tell you otherwise.

If you know me too well by now, then you know that I tend to settle for the colors grey, white, dark blue, brown, grey, grey, and some black when it comes to clothes. Rarely do you see me in green, yellow, or even orange...on second thought, I don't think I own anything orange.

Now a days I find myself choosing red over other colors. Red cardigan, red socks, red backpack (mucho gracias Jon), and now I'm actually considering red shoes. SHOCKness. Mind you I'm not going to wear all these red things at once! It's actually a great accent color. Add a little red element to your outfit of bland colors (ex: nice pin, red socks, red scarf, etc) and you can bet that your outfit will surely pop out even more. I find red socks that peep out of pants and a red coat in bleak grey weather to be quite charming. Why red? Well I personally think it beats colors like yellow and green. I just don't think they would have that same effect that I (and maybe other people too) find so charming and hm yes, chic.

President Obama's speech (directed toward students across the U.S) is scheduled to air on September 8. He will speak about the importance of education, staying at school, etc etc. Sounds good, no? But surprisingly, this has ignited controversy amongst parents and other peepz (ahem republicans..jk).

Jim Greer (the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida) is against the brainswashing. He states-

"The address scheduled for September 8, 2009, does not allow for healthy debate on the President's agenda, but rather obligates the youngest children in our public school system to agree with our President's initiatives or be ostracized by their teachers and classmates."

Well, okay, I kinda can see where he's coming from... Apparently, a guided discussion geared towards grades 7-12 asks suggestive questions like: " "What resonated with you from President Obama's speech? What is President Obama inspiring you to do?"

Here's what one mom had to say about it-

"I sent my children to school to be educated NOT indoctrinated."

Laugh out loud. Okay, calm down. No need to get all big brother up in here. It's not like the government is strapping your kids unto their desks against their will and forcing them to agree with the President. F.Y.I, Schools are not required to air the speech-just encouraged. Anyway, prohibiting your children from watching this national speech seems awfully a lot like an attempt to control their minds. So much for wanting them to be educated and being able to formulate their own opinions and ideas of such topics.

Ridiculous I say. They almost make it seem like it is just as indecent and wrong as watching violent/disturbing/suggestive movies/shows...(hmm little did you know that your little Timmy over there...)

On a sad note-

"In an ironic twist, one Missouri school won't be airing the speech because of a lack of funding. Michelle Baumstark, spokeswoman for Columbia public schools, told the Columbia Daily Tribune, "We don’t have the funding or the equipment to support that type of broadcasting.”

So I watched "(500) Days of Summer" a few days ago. I actually thought it was a great movie (though some people may have found it confusing the way the story jumps from one day to another-I just thought it really worked out well that way). While the story may not be a typical love story (or is "different" in that it isn't one at all), you can't help but love the characters and believe that they are meant for each other. That's probably one thing why this movie is somewhat refreshing-it actually deals with how most real relationships work as oppose to the Hollywood ones we've all seen before. It's appealing in the sense that it is relatable (because you know, everyone loves to feel like they're not the only ones). Despite the fact that it is about a failed romance, the movie is still charming, funny, smart, and honest (without making you feel too depressed about it).

On another note, unlike other movies that evoke LA as a dirty, gritty, dangerous place (well, it isn't like that ALL the time), this movie actually romanticizes Los Angeles-and it feels great to see it in a different light. Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), is an aspiring architect and takes Summer (Zooey Deschanel) on an architectural tour of downtown. My favorite part would have to be Tom's favorite bench and view of downtown (one I haven't seen yet on my last downtown adventure). It isn't breathtaking or anything, but its a view of subtle beauty and charm, one that you'd have to truly appreciate. So I suppose that's why Los Angeles is always getting a bad rep-people need to stop, take the time to look, and see that there is more to love.

Anywayzzz there is more to it, but i'm afraid I might accidentally spoil it for you. So to sum it all up-you should watch this movie.

A few days ago, I took the initiative to practice my Tagalog. Let me tell you, I ain't that fluent. It's odd that I can understand it, but whenever I try to formulate phrases they come out so awkwardly.

For example, I had said that "Tagalog is Tigas". What I was trying to say is that tagalog is hard/difficult. Instead, I ended up saying that tagalog is "hard" (adj. used to describe the physicality of things such as rocks, ice, burnt toast, and....um..ya you get it).

When Nine was away....

I took her MacBook on a mini adventure.

We ate 20 funnel cakes and rode ghetto wooden roller coasters all day at the local church carnival. When we were munching on cotton candy, doing jello shots, and flipping through Vogue, MacBook pointed at a picture of the Eiffel Tower and said-"NOHO, I WANT TO GO TO THERE".

So we sailed away to France (first class with lobster dinner) and enjoyed ourselves a nice glass of vin. It was getting late, so we drove back home just in time. She didn't suspect a thing.

-Hearing the birds chirp here and there outside and people snore softly brings about a sense of calmness while I'm in bed.

-Hearing the neighbors from upstairs cause a raucous and play Ashanti's "Foolish" on repeat stirs about a sense of fury and bitterness while I'm in bed.

-I believe there's a correlation with cold weather and good music. The bleaker and colder the sky is, the better and more diverse the music is. In contrast, the sunnier and warmer the weather is, the more unchanging the music becomes. Does it follow then that the weather really does affect one's mood?

-If all this time people only ate veggies, would we all have developed and grown differently? (would we have different features or traits?)

-What if we didn't have toes? Like, if our feet were just one big slab of flesh...

My turkey-basil panini

Ingredients

Sourdough Bread
Mozzarella
Turkey Slices
A bit of dijon mustard
Mayo
Basil, Basil, Basil, Basil!

Combine all ingredients. Heat up pan and spray PAM or spread butter-whichever you prefer. Throw in yo sandwich. Place a heavy object over it-so you can flatten out the sandwich (I used my mama's pot). Flip when one side is nice and brown. FINIS! EAT!

Balsamic BBQ chicken

I got this from Giada (Everyday Italian)

Ingredients
BBQ sauce stuff (ketchup, brown sugah, wor-wor-wor-cheshtererarh sauce, garlic)
Balsamic Vinegar
4 chicken breasts, thighs, legs, or feet...

Make yo bbq sauce and mix in balsamic vinegar in a saucepan. Bake yo chicken in the oven at 375 dee-grees for 20 minutes. Spoon that sauce all over yo chicken. Then bake it for another 15-20 minutes. FINIS! Serve with rice or mashed potatoes. YUM.

(BTW, my chicken ended up tasting a bit like Adobo...)

Nonsense, co-curated by NO and HO, is the nonsense retrospective art of JR. The series focuses on the nonsense truths and values of today’s world. The artist, JR, embarked on a life-changing journey to the magnificent valley in order to seek what it is that’s been burning deep inside of him. During his travels, he encountered fascinating individuals and sought to catch a glimpse of their inner nonsense. JR performed ancient rituals of the indigenous tribe Quest and looked to other sorts of devices that would aid him in capturing IT. However, none of the individuals gave him what he was truly seeking. One day, he had the nonsense desire of going on a stealing spree. So, after spotting an innocent passerby, he, with no remorse, pushed her to the ground and snatched some notebooks from her hands. He hid in a nearby shabby alley. While sitting there, JR endured the dangers of night thieves and hoes, the damp merciless cold, and the sounds of moaning cats. For hours he sat and stared at the notebook for answers-but to no avail. So here I am munching on my "midnight" snack (ritz crackahs with cheese and cranberry juice...oh so fancy) and contemplating about the cosmos and Pi (yum) so that I may one day function excellently as a Noho and thus become one of the most happy people on the planet.

Until then, I will also be longing for something that was so dear to me. It was snatched away from me a long time ago and I have since searched to the ends of the world to find it.

3D doritos-for 3 times the delight!

Sure there have been crazy and disgusting new ideas...ex. Pepsi Twist (which by the way tasted the way lysol smells) . But 3D doritos was genius! Ever since the disappeance of these, snacking just hasn't been the same for me. Please help me find them!
